Finance Minister Yair Lapid Bottoms Out Public Approval Poll
March 1, 2014Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon (Likud) is the minister with the highest approval rating in Israel, according to a poll by Millward-Brown.
58.9% of Israelis polled approve of Ya’alon’s leadership so far, Channel 2 notes Saturday night. Rounding out the top three in public approval are Education Minister Rabbi Shai Piron (Yesh Atid) at 57.2% and Communications and Home Front Defense Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) at 52.7%.
Interior Minister Gid’on Sa’ar (Likud) placed fourth in the poll at 52%, and Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud) at 51.7%, according to the daily. Surprisingly, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni (HaTnua) placed sixth at 50.2%, despite the ongoing failures in peace talks with the Palestinian Authority (PA). Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, placed just seventh with 50%.
Economics Minister and Jewish Home Chairman Naftali Bennett placed ninth with 47.2%, just below Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu), who made eighth place (48.8%) in his first term since returning as Foreign Minister. Tourism Minister Uzi Landau (Yisrael Beytenu) rounded out the top ten with 47.2%.
Energy and Water Minister Silvan Shalom (Likud) is the eleventh-most approved Israeli minister, at 46.6%, with Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir (Yisrael Beytenu) twelfth and Health Minister Yael German (Meretz) thirteenth.
Further down the list, Welfare Minister Meir Cohen (Yesh Atid) placed fourteenth at 45.4%; Pensioners Minister Uri Orbach (Jewish Home) placed fifteenth at 45%; and Science and Technology Minister Ya’akov Peri (Yesh Atid) placed sixteenth at 44.8%. Rounding out the top twenty were Sports and Culture Minister Limor Livnat (Likud) at 44.4%, Minister for Environmental Amir Peretz (HaTnua) at 44.3%, and Minister of Internal Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch (Yisrael Beytenu) at 44.3%.
Intelligence Minister Yuval Steinitz (Likud) made twentieth at 44% even; Absorption Minister Sofa Landver (Yisrael Beytenu) made 21st place at 42%.
Finance Minister Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) and Housing Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) bottomed out the poll, both garnering a mere 41.9% approval rating.
