False Alarm: Combat Jets Scrambled over Tel Aviv

IAF combat jets were scrambled into the skies over greater Tel Aviv Saturday morning, after suspicious movement was detected on the radar screens of an IAF monitoring unit.

The suspicious movement turned out to have been a flock of birds, and the jets returned to their base.

Some alarmed residents reported running to safe rooms in their apartments, concerned that an attack was underway. It is highly unusual to see low-flying military jets over Tel Aviv.

The security establishment is concerned that terror organizations will try to carry out an attack against Israeli citizens from the air.

In April, IAF jets intercepted a UAV in the skies over the Mediterranean, opposite Haifa. The UAV was believed to have been sent by Hizbullah, a Lebanese-based terror group controlled by Iran.
