Sirens have sounded in the Kiryat Shmona and Metula areas, near the Lebanese border, on Thursday night, according to the Home Front Command. 

No injuries or damage have been reported. 

The IDF Spokesperson’s Office stated shortly after the event that the siren was a false alarm. 

Tensions have heightened along the Lebanese border recently, after several rockets were fired into Israel over the past several months and amid concerns over Hezbollah activity close to the Galilee. 

The alarm surfaces after at least twelve rockets were fired into Israel from Lebanon during the course of Operation Protective Edge in Gaza, a fifty-day offensive which ended last month.

The Lebanese Army arrested several terrorists involved in at least one salvo on the Galilee, but also complained to mediating body UNIFIL after the IAF responded to the attacks. 

Earlier this week, calm along the border was shattered once again, after explosions along terror group Hezbollah’s telecommunications network there killed a Hezbollah terrorist, and was subsequently blamed on Israeli “spying.” 

In January, a similar incident stoked already-high tensions between the two countries, after bickering over the exact location of a suspicious object ensued and Beirut accused the IDF of entering its own land unlawfully. 

More than 100 people accused of spying for Israel have been arrested in Lebanon since April 2009, most of them army members or telecommunications employees.
