Jerusalem District Police conducted a massive operation on Monday to pinpoint and confiscate weapons from two locations in Arab neighborhoods of the the capital.
In a courtyard adjacent to a house in Ras al-Amud, police uncovered weapons wrapped in bags and buried underground.
The weapons seized include six pipe bombs, two stun grenades, and a Carl Gustav rifle as well as cartridges and ammunition. The home’s owner was taken into custody.
Simultaneously, police searched a falafel stall on Sultan Suleiman Street and discovered two pipe bombs, cartridges and ammunition.
The stall’s owner, an Arab resident of Wadi Joz, was detained for questioning.
Jerusalem District Police commander Moshe Edri praised the cooperation between “intelligence and investigative operations and the professional Merhav Kedem police forces, the Special Patrol Unit (Yasam) and Border Police.”
Together, he stressed, “they located and seized weapons which would have been used for terrorist or criminal activities thereby preventing serious harm to to innocent civilians and security forces.
