Facebook Orders Removal of Hezbollah Pages

Decision to ban Hezbollah and its Al-Manar television station stems from Facebook’s policy against terror incitement and hate propagation • Both Google and Apple have recently removed Al-Manar apps from their products • Al-Manar has been on U.S. terror list since 2004.
Facebook management has ordered the removal of pages belonging to Hezbollah and its Al-Manar television network, Israel Radio reported on Thursday.
According to the report, the decision to ban Hezbollah from the popular social networking site was made due to Facebook’s policy against terror incitement and hate propagation. The U.S. State Department included Al-Manar on its Terrorism Exclusion List in December 2004.
Al-Manar recently tried to open a new Facebook page without directly mentioning the station’s name.
Last month, both Google and Apple removed a Hezbollah application for streaming Al-Manar videos from their respective app stores.
Twitter, however, has so far refused to respond to calls by advocacy groups to block Hezbollah, in line with its general stance against suppressing speech on its platform, according to a report on the Jewish Daily Forward.
