Exposed: UN implicitly honors murderers of Israelis

A Palestinian NGO funded by UN bodies and foreign governments held a tree planting ceremony last Friday for “Land Day,” in which it honored 209 “martyrs of the intifada” in a mass celebration of the recent terror wave.

The event held by the NGO, Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC), was exposed by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) on Monday. PMW noted that among the “martyrs” were numerous terrorists who murdered or tried to murder Israelis since last September, in a terror surge that has left 34 dead and over 400 wounded.

PMW further revealed that UAWC is funded by UNRWA and UNDP, both UN bodies, as well as the governments of Australia, Spain, Netherlands and Japan in addition to numerous European NGOs, as recorded in UAWC’s website.

“Their funding of the UAWC implicates all these institutions and organizations in the act of honoring murderers of Israelis,” explained PMW, noting that it has recently exposed similar cases of UN funded groups honoring terrorists.

Among the terrorists honored with an olive tree and mentioned in a report on the event last Friday in the official Palestinian Authority (PA) daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida was Muhannad Halabi, who stabbed and murdered two Israelis and wounded the wife and 2-year-old baby of one them in Jerusalem’s Old City last October.

Another terrorist honored in the event was Fadi Alloun, who stabbed and wounded a 15-year-old Israeli.

According to a representative of the UAWC, the event was meant to “convey the message that we will hold on to the land, and that we will not forget the martyrs who sacrificed (their lives).'”

A photo from the event, seen below, was included in the Al-Hayat Al-Jadida report with the caption: “Muhannad Halabi’s mother standing next to a tree that was planted yesterday, on Land Day, in the city of El-Bireh.”

The sign on the right in the picture reads “Muhannad Halabi,” while the sign of the left reads “Fadi Alloun.”

In a similar case, PMW on Sunday exposed that the Palestinian NGO Rural Women’s Development Society organized a chain of readers in honor of terrorist Baha Alyan, who murdered three victims in a Jerusalem shooting attack.

Significantly, the NGO is funded by UNDP, UNFPA, FAO, the Spanish and Dutch governments and European NGOs.

Getting back to UAWC, some of its sources of funding aside from the UN and foreign governments include international NGOs that have helped fund terror-related events in the past.

NGO Development Center (NDC) was exposed in the past by PMW as funding PA TV programs for youth that glorify terror and demonize Israelis. World Vision, an Australian Christian charity, was another donor and in the past funded a youth center named after a terrorist.

Another NGO donor for UAWC was the Norwegian People’s Aid, which previously funded an exhibit erasing Israel from maps.
