Israeli officials are furious over the European Union’s decision last night (Monday) that its agreements with Israel will not apply to Judea and Samaria.

Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely said, “The Europeans continue to act in a unilateral manner on all issues connected to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“This statement achieves the opposite effect of what it was intended to achieve. Statements like these only push off the dialog and, in effect, encourage Palestinians to continue their attempts to condemn Israel in the international arena and their unending incitement to kill Israeli civilians.”

The Foreign Ministry has also released an official statement: “After a diplomatic and political effort by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the Foreign Ministry, the EU has softened its decision. With that, the Union continues to act towards Israel with double standards, while ignoring the Palestinian Authority’s responsibility for the political deadlock and for the incitement that feeds the wave of Palestinian terror. Out of about 200 border conflicts in the world, the EU chooses to discriminate only against Israel. This approach prevents the Union from being a fair participant in settling the conflict.”

Yesh Atid head Yair Lapid also said, “The statement that was published by European Union foreign ministers today is the continuation in a problematic line of attempts to intervene in the State of Israel’s sovereignty.”

He added: “The statement is trying to declare future borders and to create a reality on the ground, and it pushes off the chances of a deal to separate Israel and the Palestinians.”
