Elderly man in Bat Yam nearly dies of hypothermia

An 85-year-old man suffering hypothermia was evacuated unconscious and in serious condition from his home in Bat Yam to Wolfson Hospital in Holon on Wednesday evening.

Magen David Adom medic Roni Kavodi, who treated the elderly man, recounted the scene: “When we entered the apartment, we saw a man about 85 lying on the ground unconscious and his body temperature was cold.”

“We immediately provided initial medical treatment, including heating and fluids, and evacuated him to a hospital in an ambulance with his condition serious but stable.

Earlier this week, a seven-week-old infant from Ariel suffered hypothermia due to the stormy and cold weather.

MDA paramedics provided the infant with medical treatment and evacuated her to Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petah Tikva – the baby is in serious condition.

MDA has called on the public to keep in constant contact with elderly family members and neighbors to make sure they are healthy, feeling well, and do not need any assistance.

In case of suspected hypothermia, the public is asked to call MDA at 101.
