El-Al Grounds Daytime Flights to Eilat

El Al, Israel’s leading national airline, has suspended all daytime flights to the resort city of Eilat.

The announcement comes on the heels of Israel Aviation Authority (IAA) guidance regarding the flight path, landing and take off procedures at Eilat airport.

Arkia and Israir flights to Israel’s southern most city are set to continue as planned.

El Al’s response to ground its daytime flights comes into immediate effect. An announcement from El AL said that the airline’s CEO, former Israeli Airforce Commander Eliezer Shkedi had “ordered flights to be suspended as of today.”

The statement added that EL AL had not received satisfactory answers and clarification about new IAA guidelines and had taken the steps as a matter of caution.

El AL said that night flights to the popular holiday resort would remain unchanged.

The statement from El Al said that “El Al does not compromise the safety of its passengers.”

“Customers affected will be refunded and be provided with overland transfer from Ben Gurion Airport and Eilat (by bus) at no cost. El Al apologizes to its customers for the inconvenience and hope that the solution will be found soon.”
