Not for the first time, an Egyptian commentator (this time a political scientist) has demanded that the Jews compensate Egypt for the gold they took on their way to freedom from slavery.

According to tradition the slaves – who had not been paid for their back-breaking labor for the generations they were enslaved – were handed riches by their former masters who were terrified that the infamous ten plagues would continue should the Jews stay.

It is worth noting that today’s Egyptians are mostly the descendants of Arab conquerers – not the ancient Egyptians of Biblical times.
