‘Dr. Moskowitz was a leader and a revolutionary’

Former Knesset Member Yaakov “Ketzaleh” Katz on Thursday night eulogized Jewish philanthropist Dr. Irving Moskowitz, who passed away at the age of 88.

“Dr. Moskowitz was a leader and a revolutionary – you can add his name to the big list alongside Herzl, Jabotinsky, Ben Gurion and Menachem Begin. He was a humble, wise man and a financial genius,” Katz told Arutz Sheva.

“The Almighty blessed him with lots of wealth and he knew how to link that wealth to the building of communities in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem. When we started the settlement enterprise he was the financer, the buyer, and the builder. In his intellect, wisdom, patience and financial understanding, he enabled us to do great things,” Katz added, noting that, as he did with many other Zionist enterprises, Dr. Moskowitz also helped establish Arutz Sheva, the Beit El Yeshiva and many other institutions.

“He was the main force behind ‘the people are with the Golan’ – he turned our dream of Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem into an Israeli reality,” Katz said, adding that Dr. Moskowitz’s wife Cherna greatly helped with the Zionist project in Israel even after her husband fell ill.

“Cherna is a princess and a queen who continues without interruption the largest and important enterprise in Israel,” he said.
