Dershowitz: UN Has No Moral Authority When it Comes to Israel

September 22, 2011

As Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took center stage at the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday afternoon September 22nd, over 500 members of “StandWithUs”, the pro-Israel advocacy organization, engaged in some creative street theater, only a few blocks away as they staged their own circus style protest in response to the racism and hypocrisy of the United Nations.

Replete with clown masks, colorful wigs, big red plastic noses, noisemakers, signs and flags, the mostly youthful rally participants went on record in protesting the unilateral Palestinian gambit for statehood, the UN sponsored Durban III conference, and the appearance of Ahmadinejad.

Pointing to the UN building from Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, Roz Rothstein, the CEO of StandWithUs told the rally attendees, “If you want to get some idea of what a circus looks like, just look over there to the UN. What we are witnessing today is an institution that has turned good to bad, right to wrong and justice to injustice.”

Referencing Ahmadinejad’s incessant attacks on the veracity of the Holocaust, she said, “Today, the UN is hosting a murderous tyrant who is bent on the genocide of Israel and the Jewish people, very much like the Nazis were during World War II. I come from a family of Holocaust survivors and the Iranian madman is denying the history of my family and countless other families. Every decent person should raise their voices in defiance at the seething racism and anti-Semitism that is being supported by the UN.”

Introducing Harvard law professor and pro-Israel advocate Alan Dershowitz, Ms. Rothstein said, “Alan is one of my favorite people in the whole world and his message is own that the whole world needs to listen to.”

Delivering a rousing address aimed at encouraging the high school and college aged supporters of Israel to speak out against the escalating campaign to demonize the Jewish state, Professor Dershowitz declared, “The UN is a war mongering institution that gives membership to nations that practice apartheid. It has no moral authority when it comes to Israel and the Jewish people. How dare the member states of the UN condemn Israel when it’s the only stable democratic country in the Middle East. How dare Turkey lecture Israel on peace and how dare Norway lecture Israel on equality.”

Concerning the Palestinian quest for independent statehood at the UN which is slated to take place on Friday after PA President Mahmoud Abbas concludes his address, Prof. Dershowitz said, “This vote is not about resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict because such member nations of the UN as Saudi Arabia and Cuba, among others who will cast their vote don’t even recognize Israel’s right to exist. What they are seeking is the end of the Jewish state and not the creation of a Palestinian one.”

Offering a vision of what a proposed Palestinian state would be predicated on, Prof. Dershowitz said, “This state would be anti-Jewish, anti-Christian, anti-gay and anti minorities.” Calling for a single global standard of human rights, he held the UN accountable for being a purveyor of racism, anti-Semitism and falsehood. “Why should the Palestinians compromise when the UN gives them everything they want?” he queried.

Exhorting his audience to zealously pursue their pro-Israel activism, Prof. Dershowitz declared, “You have to keep up the fight. Never give up hope. Never be disillusioned. Demand peace and equality and challenge this hollow request for Palestinian statehood. Let there be peace, but we must demand a peace based on mutual negotiations. The answer to falsehood is truth and it is your job to keep speaking the truth no matter what.”
