Danon: Decision to Build is Good, But Don’t Demolish Outposts

November 2, 2011

MK Danny Danon (Likud) welcomed on Wednesday the government’s decision to accelerate the construction of 2,300 homes in east Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.

The decision was reached on Tuesday in a meeting between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his eight senior ministers, and comes as a response to the Palestinian Authority’s unilateral moves, such as its acceptance to UNESCO as a full member.

“I am very happy to see that the Prime Minister and the Cabinet have finally decided to build in Jerusalem and in the main Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria,” Danon told Arutz Sheva. “That’s exactly what we were elected for: to build and not to destroy.”

Danon reminded, however, that while new construction has been approved, there is still a threat of demolition in places such as Givat Assaf, the Ulpana neighborhood in Beit El, and Migron. He called on Netanyahu to work to stop these demolitions.

“I call on the Prime Minister to take care of the outposts,” Danon said. “We will not accept the fact that a Likud-led government is destroying the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. We are pushing the Prime Minister to form a special committee that will make sure that we do not destroy any outposts in Judea and Samaria.”

“This is a Likud policy,” he pointed out. “This is why I was elected. That is why the Prime Minister was elected.”
