Clinton Admits ‘No Perfect Solutions’ in Israel-PA Conflict

Former President Bill Clinton told participants at Israel’s Fifth annual Presidential Conference in Jerusalem on Wednesday, “There are no perfect solutions to the Israel-Palestine conflict.”

Speaking to the audience after receiving Israel’s highest honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, from President Shimon Peres, Clinton said the key to the situation is to “expand the definition of ‘us’, and to shrink the definition of ‘them’.”

Clinton, referred to by Israel’s president as his “dearest friend,” was told by Peres that the concept of the “two-state solution is your gift to Israel.”

The 90-year-old Israeli president said in his speech introducing the two-term former American president, “Leaders today should not lead; they should agree to be led by the people.”

Peres added that a leader must “enhance the capacity of the people to express their deep worries.”

He told a standing ovation that a nation “needs a majority to do the right thing,” but warned that “a minority can do the wrong thing.”
