Children Fighting for Life after Falling in Swimming Pools

Two young children drowned in pools in Israel on Sunday, in tragic incidents that left both of them in serious condition as medical teams fight to save their lives.

In one case, a two-year-old infant girl drowned in a private pool in the coastal city of Rishon Letzion.

Magen David Adom (MDA) medics and United Hatzalah volunteers rushed to the scene, where they used resuscitation techniques on the infant before evacuating her to Assaf Harofeh Hospital.

Less than an hour earlier, a seven-year-old boy drowned in a pool at a hotel in Eilat, Israel’s southernmost seaside resort city.

He was rescued from the water by a life guard, but by that point he was already unconscious, not breathing and without any pulse.

MDA medics and United Hatzalah volunteers worked for a long time to resuscitate the boy, and after they were finally able to return his pulse, they evacuated him in an emergency care vehicle to Eilat’s Yoseftal Medical Center.

David Asraf, a senior MDA medic, said that he arrived to find “a seven-year-old boy unconscious without any pulse and not breathing lying at the edge of the pool.”

“The life guard who was there told us that he pulled him from the water and started basic first aid. Immediately we conducted advanced resuscitation techniques and when his pulse returned we evacuated him in serious condition to the hospital.”

The drownings comes amid an intense heat wave, and after a six-year-old boy from the Jerusalem area drowned to death last week at a private pool at a guest house in Sde Ilan in the Lower Galil.
