Chief Rabbi Urges Mass French Aliyah At Toulouse Attack Memorial

Arutz Sheva was in Toulouse Thursday for a memorial service commemorating three years since a terrorist attack killed three children and a rabbi at the Ohr Torah Jewish elementary school.

The service took place at the synagogue within the school complex, under tight security, and was attended by dignitaries including Israel’s Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef.

Rabbi Yosef called on French Jews to “strengthen themselves” through Torah study, and also issued a call for French Jewry to make aliyah to Israel en-masse.

Rabbi Yosef emphasized, however, that he was not making the call to move to Israel because of the spate of deadly Muslim terrorist attacks against the community, but because it was the right thing to do.

“The rabbis should emigrate at the end – after everyone has left, they should come,” he said.

23-year-old Al Qaeda terrorist Mohammed Merah murdered his four Jewish victims at the end of a killing spree in which he also murdered three French policeman.

He was eventually shot dead in a gunbattle with police.
