Canada’s Pro-Israel Lobby to Protest Iran Deal

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), a pro-Israel advocacy group in Canada, is calling on members of the Canadian Jewish community to join it in a protest in Washington against the Iran nuclear deal.

“We are deeply concerned about the agreement between the P5+1 and Iran. Intense diplomatic pressure must continue to be applied against Iran as long as it remains on the path to nuclear arms, sponsors terrorism worldwide, and fuels conflicts throughout the Middle East,” the group said in a statement.

“The international community must continue to use all economic and diplomatic tools to counter the threat posed by the regime to regional peace, global security, and domestic human rights,” said CIJA.

The organization added that it is arranging for a delegation of community members to travel to Washington D.C. to join The March To Save America rally on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, September 9.

Participants at the march will be invited to attend high level briefings while in Washington, D.C.

The Canadian government has not shared President Barack Obama’s enthusiasm over the deal with Iran.

Canadian Foreign Minister Rob Nicholson responded to the deal shortly after it was reached, warning that the Islamic regime may still be able to obtain a nuclear weapon even with the agreement.

“We have to make every possible diplomatic effort to ensure that Iran will never be able to achieve the ability to develop a nuclear weapon,” said Nicholson, noting such a development could spark a nuclear arms race in the Middle East.

The foreign minister added that “Iran’s track record is not one that encourages trust.”

Canada will continue to judge Iran based on its actions and not on its words, concluded Nicholson.
