Panic ensued in Jerusalem on Wednesday morning as an Egged bus caught fire, causing all passengers to be evacuated.

The bus lit up while driving along Harozmarin Street, located in the Gilo neighborhood of southern Jerusalem, reports Channel 2.

Firefighter teams and Magen David Adom (MDA) medics rushed to the scene, where they found that the fire burst out from the region of the bus’s rear wheels.

Fortunately all of the passengers were safely evacuated, and no one was wounded in the incident.

The fire would seem to raise questions regarding Egged’s maintenance of its vehicles, even as the company is facing heavy pressure over a horrific crash on Highway 1 in early February in which six passengers died and dozens of others were wounded.

Late last month police recommended placing the Egged driver Chaim Biton on trial for negligent manslaughter.

Police likewise called to try four or five senior Egged officials for negligence after the investigation found that they knew about the complaints against Biton in the past and previous crashes he caused while working for the company, and nevertheless did not take him off the road.
