Border Police Officer Foils Terror Attack Near Hevron

A 17-year-old Palestinian Authority Arab teenager was shot and killed on Wednesday evening after pulling a fake gun on Border Police officers near Hevron.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. local time, when the teenage boy arrived at a Border Police position located the on the road connecting between Kiryat Arba and the Cave of the Patriarchs. As he approached of the officers, he was asked to produce an ID card.

As one of the officers was inspecting the ID card, the boy began to beat him with his fists, knocked him down and pulled out a gun. A female Border police officer who witnessed the incident and saw that her fellow officer was in danger quickly responded and fired two bullets at the teen. He was wounded and died on the way to the hospital. A police sapper who arrived subsequently to check out the gun discovered that it was a fake gun made out of metal

Following the incident PA Arabs started disturbances in the region, but they died out quickly. The Judea and Samaria Division of the Israeli police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Channel 2 News reported that hours after the incident, Hamas published obituaries over the teen, who was named as Mohammed al-Salamiya from Hevron.

“The blood of the martyr Mohammad al-Salamiya, which was spilled on his birthday near the Cave of the Patriarchs, shows how criminal this occupier is, shedding the blood of our people day and night,” said the terror group according to the report.

“The martyr belonged to a family of jihadists, and his brother is a the released prisoner Awad al-Salamiya, who was released in the Shalit deal after 18 years in prison,” added Hamas.
