Barghouti: We Will Prove Israeli ‘War Crimes’

June 25, 2015

The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) will on Thursday morning submit a series of documents to the International Criminal Court as part of an impending “war crimes” suit against Israel at the Hague.

According to a Channel 2 report, the PLO is looking to capitalize on the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) report released Monday, which accuses Israel of “war crimes,” and which, the PLO claims, “reinforced” its position.

Mustafa Barghouti, head of the Palestinian National Initiative party and a member of the PLO Central Council, said the group’s goal “is to prove war crimes were carried out so the chief prosecutor will launch an investigation.”

He added that the PLO was looking to remove the immunity of “Israel and its leaders” and put the state on trial.

“We are working for the restoration of justice, implementation of human rights, protection of Palestinians and the prosecution of those responsible [for violating these these thing],” Barghouti stated.

According to Palestinian media reports, the documents to be submitted include information on Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria, Palestinian prisoners jailed in Israel and Operation Protective Edge.

“The documents presented to the court relate crimes and war crimes committed by senior members of Israeli leadership,” the PLO announced, arguing there is a deep connection between “crimes carried out in the settlements and attacks on civilians in Gaza.”

Israeli political sources told Arutz Sheva on Wednesday that the Jewish state does not intend to cooperate with the ICC given that it has never recognized the authority of the court.
