Former Defense Minister Ehud Barak has threatened to sue the media over the publication of recordings used for his upcoming biography Monday, after a second set of audio files reveals he blamed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for the kidnapping of three Israeli teens in 2014. 

“If the recording will not be returned immediately as he already demanded Friday, and if the broadcast recordings will not stop, we will take legal steps against everyone [involved] as required to stop this reckless behavior,” Barak’s legal team stated publicly Monday.

“The use of tape without the knowledge or permission of Barak in advance, is a breach of trust, a breach of obligation and a breach of any normative journalism,” they added. 

Channel 2‘s Roni Daniel has published two sets of leaks since last Friday featuring Barak.

In the first, the former Defense Minister stated that the IDF refrained from carrying out attacks on Iran and Iranian nuclear facilities between 2010-2012 due to hesitation from current Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon and current Energy and Water Minister (but recent Minister of Strategic Affairs) Yuval Steinitz.

The second set of recordings, meanwhile, reveals that Barak has blamed the Prime Minister for how the 2011 Gilad Shalit deal was handled, and that he views Netanyahu’s lack of follow-up regarding released terrorists and media handling of the event as providing a platform for Hamas terrorists to capture teens Eyal Yifrah, Gilad Shaer, and Naftali Frankel in June 2014. 

It is unclear how Daniel obtained the leaks, although at least one former government official – former Cabinet Secretary Oved Yehezkel – hypothesized in a special Arutz Sheva interview Monday night that the entire scandal may be a media and political ploy.
