Another $500K Found in Yisrael Beytenu Corruption Case

Investigators found another two million shekel ($503,981) in a bank account connected to Deputy Interior Minister Faina Kirshenbaum (Yisrael Beytenu), doubling the amount of money seized in connection to the corruption case against her and several other MKs.

Hours later, police announced that another wave of arrests will be made next week in connection with the case, reports Yedioth Aharonoth.

Kirshenbaum is one of 30 senior figures suspected of involvement in corruption. The suspects apparently illegally allocated budgets to NPOs and different sources, transferred funds to regional council organizations, and laundered money through “straw company” fronts.

Likewise the suspects are thought to have given bribes and benefits, as well as having appointed and advanced the interests of their associates.

Searches were conducted on their homes and offices, and computers and documents were also seized as part of the investigation.

The corruption case has hurt Yisrael Beytenu in polls so far, as it slipped from ten seats in early pre-election polls mid-December to just six for the 20th Knesset in the latest survey.

Yisrael Beytenu leader and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman has claimed the corruption case was purposely made public during the election campaign in order to hurt his party, which both police and Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein on Thursday dismissed as “nonsense”.
