Alert Residents Foil Arab Infiltration in Givat Ronen

February 9, 2012

Arabs from the village of Burin near Shechem tried to infiltrate the Shomron (Samaria) community of Givat Ronen on Thursday evening.

The Arabs managed to break the bedroom window of a house in the community, but the owner noticed them, and local residents began chasing them back towards Burin.

Local residents told Arutz Sheva that soldiers who arrived on the scene to chase the Arabs seemed very confused. The residents said the soldiers did not try to engage in combat with the fleeing Arabs.

This is not the first time that Arabs have tried to infiltrate Givat Ronen. In fact, Thursday’s incident was the third such incident in the past two weeks.

Last summer, Arabs from Burin started a huge fire near the village which spread up a nearby mountain and came dangerously close to the homes in Givat Ronen.

Firefighters who were called to put out the fire were pelted with stones, causing one of them injuries to his face. The attackers only retreated when IDF soldiers arrived on the scene and fired warning shots into the air.

Previously, the community was invaded by Arabs on the Sabbath, and the residents had nothing to defend themselves with except for a handful of stones. In an earlier incident, the residents successfully beat back an attack on their community by Palestinian Authority Arabs.

The head of the Shomron Regional Authority, Gershon Mesika, called on security officers to urgently act against the attacks on Givat Ronen. He said that had the residents not been alert when the attempted infiltration on Thursday evening took place, a terror attack could have occurred.

“It cannot be that terrorists try to infiltrate the community from the same village over and over again,” Mesika said. “This danger must be taken care of immediately.”
