Ahlam Tamimi Chose Sbarro’s ‘Religious Jews’ as Murder Target
October 22, 2011When driving the suicide bomber to his murderous operation at the Sbarro pizza restaurant in Jerusalem on August 9, 2001, Ahlam Tamimi was deliberately selective. She targeted the popular eatery because it was frequented by “religious Jews,” she told an interviewer from the Center for Near East Policy Research, headed by investigative journalist David Bedein.
The Palestinian Authority Arab woman terrorist, now 31 years old, was recently released as part of the prisoner exchange deal that freed kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, despite a desperate last-minute appeal to Israel’s Supreme Court by the parents of one of her victims to keep her in prison.
Tamimi — who not only drove the suicide bomber to carry out the massacre but also helped plan the attack — said in a videotaped interview in prison with the Center last year that she deliberately searched for a place with “religious Jews.”
Convicted as an accessory to the murders and sentenced to 16 years in prison, Tamimi told the interviewer that the PA war against Israel is a “jihad” — an Islamic religious holy war. As such, she said, no agreement or negotiation is considered valid by the combatants.
After her release this week, Tamimi said, “resistance is the only way to free Palestine. Israel understands only the language of arms.”
