The Al-Jazeera network broadcast, on Thursday, video of six United Nations observers who were abducted by rebel forces Wednesday in the Golan Heights

The Philippine battalion commander said his troops are safe. “We are here because while we were passing from Position [unclear], there were bombings and artillery fires. That is why we stopped and civilian people helped us for our safety, and distributed us in different places to keep us safe. And they gave us good accommodations and gave us food to eat and water to drink.”

The troops were wearing their own uniforms and did not show signs of having been abused.

The United Nations Security Council condemned on Wednesday evening the seizure of 20 UN peacekeepers by Syrian rebels and demanded their immediate release.

“The members of the Security Council strongly condemned the detention of a group of more than 20 peacekeepers … by armed elements of the Syrian opposition,” Russian UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, this month’s president of the 15-nation council, told reporters.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also condemned the kidnapping and called for their release.
