Former Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) on Friday slammed his erstwhile ally Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, claiming he could do a better job of opposing the Iran nuclear deal than Netanyahu.

In an interview with Yedioth Aharonoth, the party chairman said “they’re just laughing at us when they start talking about Iran. You don’t need to establish an investigative committee, you need to replace the prime minister.”

Liberman said the Iran deal is “beyond a failure. To deal with this issue you need to be creative. Firm. To know how to make difficult decisions. He (Netanyahu) doesn’t have any of those things.”

Continuing to turn up his vitriol against Netanyahu, he added that the prime minister “is an excellent campaigner. The best there was here. He knows to promise things that he doesn’t intend to do. He is flying us to nowhere.”

After condemning Netanyahu for the clash between him and US President Barack Obama, Liberman was asked whether he thought he could do a better job in opposing the Iran deal – unsurprisingly he answered in the affirmative.

“On the Iranian issue I’m the most proficient and know best to deal with it,” claimed Liberman. “I have a detailed plan on what needs to be done. I don’t intend to discuss it in public. I presented it in the appropriate forums.”

Liberman concluded by predicting new elections in the first third of 2016.

After running jointly with Likud in the 2012 elections, Liberman forewent a coalition with Netanyahu in the current elections after only receiving six seats, saying he did so because the coalition was not taking a firm ideological position in terms of toppling Hamas among other things.

Ironically, his election campaign included what was described as a radical shift to the left, as he proposed giving the massive “triangle” region in northern Israel that contains roughly 300,000 Arab citizens of Israel to the Palestinian Authority (PA) to be included in a Palestinian state.
