Jerusalem Councilman Moshe Lion, who lost out to Nir Barkat in the last mayoral race, sent a letter to Barkat and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in which he expressed his shock over how orders to demolish the homes of Arab terrorists have gone unheeded.

A full half year has passed since an order was given by Netanyahu, and upheld by the Supreme Court last December, to demolish the homes of Ghassan and Uday Abu Jamal, the two terrorists who carried out the Har Nof synagogue massacre murdering five people, as well as Ibrahim Al-Akari, who murdered two by ramming his car into a Jerusalem light rail station before stabbing bystanders.

And yet their homes in the Arab majority Jerusalem neighborhoods of Jabel Mukaber and Shuafat remain standing.

In his letter Lion pointed out that the Supreme Court rejected petitions against the demolitions, casting great doubts as to why the orders have yet to be carried out.

“Unfortunately since then the terror attacks have not ceased,” wrote Lion. “In effect the most meaningful deterrent force of demolishing the homes of terrorists has not been implemented, despite the repeated declarations by sources in the state and defense establishment calling to carry out the orders.”

The councilman urged that it is an “obligation to prevent the repeat of murderous terror attacks, such as the car attack that took place last Wednesday in which Shalom Yohai Sherki hy”d was murdered.”

“Particularly in these days, with the evening of Memorial Day for the fallen soldiers of Israel and terror victims, we must act in all fields with cooperation among all sources in the state and the security establishment to conduct the demolition orders on the homes of all the aforementioned terrorists,” Lion demanded.
