Most of the public trusts Kulanu chairman Moshe Kahlon when it comes to economic issues, according to a survey published Wednesday.
According to the poll, conducted by Midgam Institute and published by Channel 2, 29% of Israelis believe Kahlon is best suited to handle Israel’s housing crisis, with fewer Israelis naming Yair Lapid as their candidate and even fewer for Labor leader Yitzhak Herzog. Bottoming out the polls are Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, with just 7% of respondents’ support, and Jewish Home Chairman Naftali Bennett with 5.5%.
Kahlon was also respondents’ top choice for finding a solution for the cost of living crisis in Israel, with Herzog close behind and Lapid in third place. Just 6.8% believed Netanyahu was capable of the task, and Bennett bottomed out the poll.
18.9% of respondents believed Kahlon, too, is the best candidate for Finance Minister, followed by Labor candidate Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg at 17.6%. Fewer respondents voted for Yuval Steinitz (Likud), Lapid, Labor’s Shelly Yechimovich, and Netanyahu; the fewest number of respondents, just 3.8%, believed in Naftali Bennett.
Kahlon’s campaign platform on Kulanu has almost entirely revolved around solving Israel’s economic issues, with a decidedly capitalist bent that is more center on the political map than his main contender, Lapid.
Solutions have included scrapping the Israel Lands Authority and separating the credit card system in Israel from the bank system, in order to open competitive credit rates.
