Supermarket Manager ‘Can No Longer Remain in Paris’

The manager of the Paris kosher supermarket attacked on Friday plans to immigrate to Israel, his brother told a German daily newspaper.

In an exclusive interview Sunday, Joel Oalid, told the Bild newspaper that after the gruesome attack his brother, Patrice, 39, could no longer remain in Paris.

Patrice Oalid was shot in the arm during the attack and is in the hospital recovering. According to his brother, after barely surviving the attack and seeing both his customers and employees murdered in cold blood, he feels he cannot stay.

In addition, he expects many more French Jews to follow suit, Joel Oalid said Patrice told him.

Joel Oalid also described details of the attack as recounted to him by his brother.

The gunman, Amedy Coulibaly, who in a video released Sunday pledged his allegiance to terrorist organization Islamic State, wore a video camera on his chest during his assault on the Hyper Cacher market.

Coulibaly informed his hostages that because they were Jewish, they were all going to die.

Patrice Oalid told Joel that Coulibaly also ordered the hostages to look into his camera and greet ISIS.

The two brothers spoke immediately after Patrice was freed, Joel noted.

Remembering the precise moment they were reunited, Joel recounted that his brother had said “the terrorist said he wanted to die. He said, ‘I will die today, but you before.’ My brother told me, he [Coulibaly] told all the people, ‘You are Jewish, and today you are going to die.’”

Joel also reported that his brother had tried to alert the police of the attack after Coulibaly entered the store and killed one employee. According to Patrice Oalid, Coulibaly held a Kalashnikov rifle in each hand.

“My brother ran outside and told the police to come in, and the police said, ‘No, no no, we don’t go in, we don’t have the order to come inside,’” Joel told the newspaper.

Four Jewish victims were killed in the attack, one of several that occurred during the terrorist spree in France last week.

The bodies of Philippe Braham, 40; Yohan Cohen, 22; Yoav Hattab, 21; and Francois-Michel Saada, in his 60s, were transferred to Israel Monday for burial on Tuesday morning.
