MK Ofer Shelah, faction leader of Finance Minister Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid party, on Friday verbally attacked Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu who is waiting for a response after the weekend from hareidi parties in an attempt to replace the current coalition.
“The state of Israel is operating without a budget, every reform is stuck because they’re waiting for Netanyahu to finish contacts to form an alternate coalition,” Shelah told IDF Radio (Galei Tzahal). “The prime minister is putting us in a spin that harms all citizens of the state of Israel.”
Shelah said the government was on hold waiting for the response of MK Ya’akov Litzman (United Torah Judaism) as to whether he will support Netanyahu.
Amid reports that Netanyahu is considering disbanding the government, Shelah continued “they are bringing us to elections out of a spin of fears that Yesh Atid can’t solve because they don’t exist in reality.”
“We think that elections aren’t good for citizens of the state of Israel, and we think life for a year without a (state) budget isn’t good for citizens, but if there will be elections we are ready for them,” said Shelah.
In fact, rather than not being good for citizens, chances are elections may not be good for Yesh Atid, which according to a Globes poll on Thursday would drop from 19 to 10 seats.
Yesh Atid aren’t the only ones preparing for elections given the recent reports that Netanyahu is leading to a shake-up; former Likud Minister Moshe Kahlon on Thursday held a meeting of his newly formed party to prepare for elections.
While Netanyahu has reportedly been chasing a union with hareidi parties to replace the coalition, Shas Chairman MK Aryeh Deri is reportedly throwing his weight behind Kahlon.
