Iran ‘Identifies’ Killers of Nuclear Scientist

Iran says it has arrested suspects in the assassination of nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, killed last week in Tehran car bombing.

Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) published a terse three-line report Monday that quoted parliament speaker Ali Larijani, the country’s former nuclear development chief, as saying the scientist’s assassins had been “identified.”

“Iranian security officers have found those behind the assassination of [the scientist],” Larijani said.

He was quoted as telling the Iranian Arabic-language Alalam international news channel that “clues are at the hands of Iranian security officers to arrest those involved” in Roshan’s death.

“The terrorists arrested for involvement in previous assassination of scientists confessed to have been trained in the occupied territories of Palestine,” Larijani said, according to IRNA.

The parliament speaker did not say how many people had been arrested this time around, or when the arrests had been made.

Nor did Larijani provide information on the nationalities, or other details about the identities of the suspects.

The 32-year-old nuclear scientist and two other passengers were killed when a magnetic bomb attached to his car exploded in broad daylight in Tehran last Wednesday. It was the fifth such attack in the past two years.Three other scientists have died under similar circumstances.

Iran has blamed Israel, the United States and Britain for Roshan’s death.
