A rocket fired by terrorists in Gaza never made it to its target, landing in the Hamas-enclave of Gaza, reports Yedioth Aharonoth.

‘Color Red’ rocket warning sirens were sounded early Friday afternoon in the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council area warning of the rocket attempt, which comes just hours after a rocket aimed at Ashkelon was shot down by the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system.

The area has been hit hard and regularly by Gaza-based terrorists since the three Israeli teens were kidnapped last Thursday.

A rocket was fired from Gaza on Thursday, exploding in the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council area in the northwestern Negev without causing any damage or injuries.

Later on Thursday Iron Dome shot down another rocket as it made its way on a trajectory towards the coastal city of Ashkelon.

In response to the attacks, IAF airstrikes were launched, targeting three concealed rocket launchers in northern Gaza, a center of terrorist activity in central Gaza and a weapons storage site in southern Gaza.

There has been a steady trickle of rocket fire in the weeks since the kidnapping, with Gaza terrorists launching rockets at Israel on Wednesday, prompting an IAF airstrike on terror targets in retaliation. The rockets have been regularly pouring in since the kidnapping.

The IDF placed Iron Dome anti-missile defense units on the coastal region near Ashdod and Tel Aviv on Wednesday, in anticipation that terror activity from Gaza may flare up soon in order to support the Hamas kidnappers of the three abducted teens, and in response to the IDF’s ongoing crackdown on Hamas in Judea and Samaria.
