Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that he had voted for Reuven Rivlin in both rounds of the presidential election that was held Tuesday.

According to Channel 2 News, Netanyahu made the comments during a meeting with Rivlin on Wednesday morning, their first since Rivlin won the vote.

Netanyahu reportedly admitted to Rivlin that he had made some mistakes over the past few months. Netanyahu had made several attempts to block Rivlin from becoming president and reportedly continued to do so even on Tuesday morning, right before the vote.

The Prime Minister also asked to leave the tension with Rivlin behind.

“We’ve known one another for a good few decades, we’re both Jerusalemites, sons of professors who were trained on Jabotinsky’s philosophy and we have a lot in common – like our soccer team,” said Netanyahu.

“We’ve gone through many things together and I’m sure that now we will put the bad things aside, and act responsibly for the future of Israel,” he told Rivlin.

On Tuesday night, as he returned home after his victory, Rivlin told reporters he had “no bad blood and no heavy heart” over Netanyahu’s attempts to block him from running.

MK Shelly Yechimovich (Labor), who declared her support for Rivlin before the election, had harsh words for Netanyahu on Tuesday, slamming him for his attempts to block Rivlin from becoming president.

Yechimovich told Channel 10 that Netanyahu’s conduct towards Rivlin during the elections “bordered on disgrace.”

“Even after the victory, Netanyahu wasn’t magnanimous for a single second, but instead showed a political, petty and ugly settling of accounts. I’m convinced that he didn’t vote for Rivlin,” said Yechimovich.
