Captain Ziv Shilon, who was badly wounded in a Hamas attack near Gaza in October 2012 and lost his arm, moved hundreds of people at the Friends of the IDF (FIDF) annual conference in Miami on Thursday.
Shilon, who gave a speech about his injury and the long rehabilitation, surprised his girlfriend Adi at the end of his speech, and proposed to her in front of the 1,500 people who attended the conference. She said “yes.”
On Friday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called Shilon and congratulated him on his and Adi’s engagement.
“Congratulations! Everyone in Israel embraces you and Adi,” Netanyahu told Shilon. “This is a very exciting moment. You represent the best in us. On behalf of myself and my wife, I wish you great happiness. Ziv, you are a great example of love for your homeland, of what is heroic and of making a sacrifice.”
Ziv thanked the Prime Minister and said, “I appreciate your support and your close guidance during my rehabilitation. They helped me and gave me much strength to continue and aim to reach greater heights in life.”
