A soldier’s parachute failed during a training jump last week, Channel 2 news reports. The incident was revealed only this week.
The soldier was jumping as part of an exercise to complete training in a particular course. During the jump, his parachute failed to open.
Thankfully, the quick-thinking soldier was able to successfully activate his reserve parachute despite having yet to complete his training. He landed safely on the Palmachim beach.
IDF officers confirmed the incident and said the army is investigating to see what caused the soldier’s first parachute to fail.
In the meantime, training involving parachuting has been put on hold, they said.
The IDF is under scrutiny over a tragic accident last week in which a soldier was killed by friendly fire near Gaza.
