A 24-year-old hareidi man has reportedly been wounded after being stabbed near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, although they have said it was likely a nationalistically-motivated attack.

Dvir Adani, a United Hatzalah medic, said “I got to the scene and saw a young hareidi man who had been stabbed in his upper torso; the man was conscious.”

He added that “witnesses reported seeing a man of Arab appearance pounce on the man and stab him before running away.”

After receiving first aid at the scene the victim was evacuated to hospital for further treatment, and is classified as lightly wounded.

Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate has been the scene of numerous anti-Semitic stabbing attacks. Just last month a 30-year-old hareidi man was stabbed in the neck, just over a week after another stabbing attack was thwarted.

Arab rioters also sometimes target Jewish pedestrians and motorists in the area.
