Another day, another barrage of mortar fire from Gaza disrupting life for residents of communities in southern Israel.
People living in the western Negev were forced to make a run for it Thursday afternoon when the Color Red rocket alert siren activated across the region. Civilians were told to remain in their shelters as security officials searched for the landing site of the rockets, but none were located.
The reason has to do with the fact that the Color Red alert only provides a window of 10 to 15 seconds’ safety in which to reach a safe space in those locations, situated only a few kilometers from Gaza. Terrorists often follow up a first barrage with a second, and Israelis have sometimes been badly wounded and even killed in the second attack, after having come out of their shelters curious to see the results of the first.
Shortly after receiving the “all clear,” it was discovered that three mortar shells had exploded in the Eshkol Regional Council district.
All three landed in open fields. No one was physically injured, and no property damage was reported.
The mortar shells were apparently fired from the northern section of Gaza.
