On Saturday evening a rocket was fired by terrorists from Gaza towards the northwestern Negev. The IDF stated “no damage or injuries were reported.”

The latest rocket follows three attacks on Thursday. In the first attack, a grad rocket was fired at the Eshkol Regional Council; earlier in the day, terrorists fired a rocket at Ashkelon, and before that at the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council.

Gaza’s steady upswing in rocket attacks came after Hamas gave terrorists the “green light” to open fire last Sunday, by withdrawing its forces that were deployed to prevent such rocket fire. On Tuesday that force was redeployed, but obviously to little effect.

In mid-January, security officials reportedly came to the conclusion that the Egyptian brokered cease fire with Gaza, made following Operation Pillar of Defense in November 2012, is now moot and dead.

According to IDF Radio (Galei Tzahal), 17 rockets had been fired from Gaza by January 17, making a rate of one missile per day.
