One of the last major European airlines offering flights to Tehran has just announced that it would no longer be flying to Iran. 

Air France-KLM announced that as of April the airline will not longer operate its Amsterdam to Tehran route. The airline was quick to say that the decision was made for economic and not political reasons. However, the move means that once the airline stops its flights to Iran, there will be only one other Western-European airline, the German-based Lufthansa, which will continue to operate flights from Europe to Iran. 

Commercial air travel between Iran and Europe has been lessening due to the economic sanctions imposed on Iran in an effort to stop its nuclear weapons program. Even Iranian based airlines flying to Europe encounter problems due to the effectiveness of economic sanctions. 

Heathrow Airport in Great Britain was among the first of many European airports which have denied refueling to Iran Air and other Iranian airlines . The ban on refueling has also made it much harder for Iranian airlines to buy western-made spare parts at European airports, causing many technical flight delays, cancellations and re-routings.
