An IDF soldier who was injured in a terror attack Friday on Israel’s southern border was much improved Saturday, doctors said. The soldier is being treated at Soroka Hospital in Beersheva, where his condition was upgraded. He was hospitalized after the attack with moderate injuries, doctors said.

Meanwhile, the funeral for the soldier killed in the attack, 20 year old Corporal Netanel Yahalomi, is to be held Saturday night. The funeral for the soldier, a resident of the Nof Ayalon suburb of Kibbutz Shaalvim in central Israel, will be held at 1:00 AM in the Modi’in military cemetery.

Yahalomi died from injuries he sustained when three armed terrorists opened fire at IDF soldiers who were patrolling along the Israel-Egypt border. An initial investigation showed that the terrorists entered into Israel from Sinai through an area where there is no security fence and that they were heavily armed.

Israel has transferred the bodies of the terrorists to Egypt, which had requested that Israel to turn over the bodies of the three terrorists, who were killed in the attack, so that it could determine their identity and to which organization they belonged. A report Saturday night said that Egypt had arrested two Sinai Bedouin whom it is believed transported the three terrorists to the border.

“A very large terror attack was prevented,” said IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Yoav Mordechai. “The terrorists apparently intended to infiltrate the territory of the state of Israel. They were found with explosive belts, vests and guns,” with the terrorists intending to blow themselves up amidst soldiers, Mordechai told Israel Radio.
