US: Five Charged with Terrorizing Jewish Camp

Five people are facing charges in an incident in Pennsylvania, in the United States, that left Jewish campers fearing for their lives. The five are charged with attacking Camp Bonim in Wayne Country, and with targeting a counselor outside the camp.

The group, led by 18-year-old Tyler Spencer, drove into the camp three times in a pickup truck. On the first occasion Spencer drove in circles at high speed in order to damage several sports fields.

In the second attack, the group targeted campers, firing off a paint gun. One camper was hit in the leg. During the assault, 21-year-old Mark Trail allegedly shouted obscene racial slurs, and told the Jewish campers “I’m going to kill you, you […]  Jews” and “Go back where you came from.”

Camp Bonim’s youngest campers are just six years old.

The group returned in the middle of the night and attempted to run down one camper with the truck, missing by just a few feet.

One day later, Spencer drove into a counselor from the camp outside a local store, and broke his leg. He fled the scene, but was caught later in the day.

Spencer has admitted to some of the charges against him, and two of his accomplices have confessed to their role in all of the incidents described.
