Dozens killed as truck crashes into crowd in Nice, France

At least 30 people were killed and at least 100 injured after a truck ploughed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in the French city of Nice on Thursday night, in what appears to be a terrorist attack.

An image from the scene appeared to show the front of a white lorry riddled with bullets. It followed witness reports that gunshots were heard at the scene, according to Sky News.

Russia Today reported that people could be seen running in panic after the incident at the Promenade des Anglais.

One image on Twitter showed about a dozen people lying on the street, some being tended to, according to the BBC.

A journalist with the Nice Matin newspaper reported from the scene that there was “a lot of blood and without doubt many injured”.

President of the Nice, Cote d’Azur region, Christian Estrosi, tweeted shortly after the incident, “The driver of a lorry seems to have killed dozens of people. Stay in your homes. More information to follow…”

More details as they become available.
