France intervenes to take Hamas TV station off-air

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu turned to French President Francois Hollande to help put a stop to incitement on official Hamas TV, according to reports.

The TV station in question, Al Aqsa TV, is broadcast via EUTELSAT, a French broadcast company.

On Saturday those efforts reportedly bore fruit, with the French government notifying Israel’s embassy in France on Saturday that the TV station’s broadcasts had been cut. Netanyahu called Hollande to thank him for his efforts to end the incitement.

However, Hamas’s channel was soon back on air – this time via a different broadcasting company.

A Hamas news anchor on the station hailed the group’s ability to circumvent Israeli and French efforts to end its incitement and vowed to continue via a different company.
