The head of the Knesset House Committee, David Bitan (Likud) spoke with Arutz Sheva amid reports that US President Barack Obama is working to renew talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
“Such a step would not change the fact that there is no possibility for any political moves. Pressuring Israel into a political move would not work,” he explained.
MK Bitan then discussed the building freeze in Judea and Samaria, and the Land of Israel Lobby’s protest meeting. “The whole system where MKs come the Lobby, speak a few sentences, get publicity, and leave shows how important the issue is to them. We need to take action. We need to make a team to sit with the Prime Minister and with [Defense Minister] Ya’alon and come to an understanding, and this hasn’t happened. In the meantime there’s only talk and the freeze continues.
“It’s clear that Netanyahu wants to build, everyone agrees with this. We have a problem with Europe and the US. We need to understand that, if the French plan comes without an American veto, it will harm all the communities in Judea and Samaria. So Netanyahu prefers a freeze over harming everything we’ve built so far in Judea and Samaria.”
In conclusion, Bitan said, “The frozen situation cannot continue. There is natural growth in Judea and Samaria, and there are plans that need to be implemented. We need to find a balance, even if it’s through a small fight with the US, but it needs to happen through understanding and not through a lobby where ultimately Labor and Yesh Atid MKs come and attack the Likud and Jewish Home.”
“We didn’t need this lobby. It hasn’t done anything, not for the Likud and not for the Prime Minister. I told this to the Lobby’s head MK Kish. We need to create a consolidated team. If we don’t do so we’ll start sanctioning,” he threatened.
