Stabbing attack in Gush Etzion: criminal, not terrorism

A tourist has been seriously wounded in a stabbing attack by an Arab terrorist between the Jewish town of Tekoa and the nearby Arab village of Beit Sahour, in the Gush Etzion region south of Jerusalem.

Palestinian emergency services provided first aid to the victim.

While terrorism was initially suspected, that incident appears to have been criminal in nature. Jerusalem District Police say the attacker was known to them.

That attack was followed just minutes later by an attempted stabbing in nearby Hevron, which ended without casualties when soldiers shot the attacker dead at the scene.

The two attacks in quick succession follow a stabbing yesterday, during Shabbat, in the central Israeli city of Ra’anana.

Three people were injured in that attack, including a 40-year-old man left with seriously injuries.

The terrorist in that attack – a 20-year-old Palestinian resident of Samaria – was apprehended by police after a brief chase.
