Muslim Arab agent aided Israel Police in major drug bust

The Tel Aviv District of the Israel Police honored a Muslim Arab resident of the north early Sunday, for a year’s worth of service busting drug activity in Yafo (Jaffa) on the State of Israel’s behalf.

The agent gained the trust of local dealers and would buy large amounts of drugs from them – usually cannabis or crystal meth – and would also buy stolen cars from them.

In the meantime, he would gain a great deal of information useful to the police about the drug pushers – including where they purchased their stolen vehicles and their involvement in violent anti-Israel demonstrations in the Arab city.

After over a year’s worth of reconnaissance, the Israel Police busted 38 drug traffickers and anti-Israel protest organizers in Yafo and nearby Ramle overnight Saturday/Sunday – all based on the agent’s information.

“Through the operation of these agents, we convey a clear message to drug dealers and criminals, wherever they are: the police is working all the time, by all means, and we are determined to fight against drugs and against criminals wherever they are and bring them to justice, for the sake of the welfare and security of the locals,” the Yiftach division commander, David Gaz, noted in a special ceremony for the agent held early Sunday.

The arrests prevented a number of planned rock-throwing and firebomb attacks as well, Gaz told Walla! News.

The agent, only named as A., apparently began supplying information to police of his own will; after he began also passing along information about the anti-Israel protests, the police began approaching him for specific answers. Not once was he asked to participate in the violence, A. noted. A. had previously served as a Border Policeman several years ago, volunteering despite the lack of a mandatory draft for Israeli Arabs.
