IDF crackdown on Hevron

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu convened the heads of the IDF and Israel Security Agency (ISA or Shabak) Thursday after the terror attacks in Tel Aviv and Gush Etzion, and they decided to clamp down on the Hevron area, where two of the day’s attackers came from.

IDF forces and Shabak will carry out intensive activity in and around Hevron, including arrests of suspects, checkpoints and patrols.

Hevron residents have been prominent in many other terror attacks in the last few weeks.

Col. Israel Tal, Commander of Hevron Region in the Police’s Judea and Samaria District, described the attack at Gush Etzion.

The terrorist, he said, “passed the column of cars on their right side and fired at the cars that were standing at his left. He struck 14 people, three of them were killed and the rest injured.”

Tal added that there appears to be a trend in which attackers are using more guns and less knives.
