Car attack at Tapuach Junction; four injured

A Palestinian Arab terrorist carried out a car attack at Tapuach junction in Samaria on Sunday morning, shortly after 9:30 am.

The driver was apparently heading northward along Route 60, toward Huwwara, when he plowed his car into the trempiada, or hitchhiking and bus stop, at the popular intersection.

Police may have identified him as Saliman Shaheen, 23, from Ramallah, via documents found in the driver’s side of the car.

Four civilians were injured in the attack.

Two people in their twenties are seriously injured, though conscious and stable; they have been evacuated by helicopter.

The third, a 23 year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, is listed as being in moderate condition; the fourth is a pregnant woman in her twenties with bruises to her stomach.

All four were evacuated to Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva.

“A short time ago, a terrorist who arrived at a hitchhiking station near the Tapuach checkpoint accelerated the car and hit a number of civilians who were there,” a spokesperson for the Border Police confirmed Sunday, about half an hour after initial reports broke. “Border Policemen who were standing nearby opened fire on the terrorist and eliminated him.”

“MDA and IDF medics are providing medical care to the injured at the site.”

Tapuach junction has been closed in both directions following the attack.
