52% of Israelis prefer Ya’alon as Defense Minister

Yisrael Beytenu chairperson Avigdor Liberman’s imminent entry to the coalition government has been evoking varied responses in Israel.

According to a Knesset Channel Poll released on Thursday, 52% of respondents said that they prefer Moshe Ya’alon (Likud) as Minister of Defense versus 31% for Liberman.

Moreover, 63% said that they would not like to see Liberman return to the Foreign Ministry.

As for the outgoing Defense Minister, 35% said Yaa’lon should take Liberman’s old position and become the Foreign Minister.

Additionally, 40% of respondents were in favor of expanding the current coalition while 34% were against it.

With that, 48% prefer to see Liberman join the coalition, 33% prefer Zionist Union chairperson Yitzchak Herzog, and 15% prefer neither.
