400 More Cops to be Deployed in Jerusalem

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu attended a meeting on security in Jerusalem on Sunday with top officials, including the Public Security Minister and Jerusalem Chief of Police. At the meeting, it was decided that 400 more police officers would be deployed in Jerusalem.

According to police data, the number of security incidents in the city has gone down over the past two months. In October, police instituted a special campaign against violence called “Keepers of the Walls” (Shomrei Homot) in which special attention was paid to Jerusalem’s security.

Among the participants were Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, ISA Director Yoram Cohen, Israel Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino and his deputy Nissim Mor, Jerusalem District Police Commander Moshe Edri and Deputy Attorney General Raz Nazeri.

At the discussion, the Prime Minister approved a plan formulated by Public Security Minister Aharonovich and Israel Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino regarding a permanent increase of forces in Jerusalem. At this stage, it has been decided to add approximately 400 officers and additional technological means to the city area.
